Getz/Gilberto (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)
11,49 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

Of The Year"-Grammy gewann!

Sprache: Deutsch. Erzähler: Volker Vorndamme. Hörprobe: http://samples.audible.de/bk/mcpu/000017/bk_mcpu_000017_sample.mp3. Digitales Hörbuch im AAX Format.

One of the first books ever published to objectively study the life and work of Franklin Jones, also known as Bubba Free John, Da Free John, Adi Da, an infamous cult leader who attracted both devotees and detractors. Contains original essays by Professor Scott Lowe (University of Wisconsin) and Professor David Lane (Mt. San Antonio College). Review by Professor Robert S. Ellwood, formerl Bashford Professor of Oriental Studies, USC, writing in NOVA RELIGIO, "This short book is among the very few important studies of one of the most interesting and outrageous sixties-generation American gurus. This book consists of two essays, both revised versions of articles that appeared in Lane's Exposing Cults: When the Skeptical Mind Confronts the Mystical (New York: Garland, 1994). The first is a hard-headed but fair-minded assessment of the way in which spiritual guides can deliver teaching that is morally and mystically elevated, yet which seems to help others more than the guides themselves, producing the phenomenon of crazy adepts and sane disciples. If this is an accurate description of Da Free John, he far from alone, and the article ought to be useful to generalists in the study of new religions. Scott Lowe's piece, basically an account of his own brief youthful stay with Jones' group in 1974, complements Lane's article with firsthand information of what the group was like in its early years. These two well-written essays make a substantive contribution to our understanding of the dynamics of the disciple-guru relationship in new religious movements." 1. Language: English. Narrator: Paul Stefano. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/053280/bk_acx0_053280_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

2020 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award Nominee-Debut Fiction A ferociously talented writer makes his stunning debut with this richly woven tapestry, set in a small Nova Scotia town settled by former slaves, that depicts several generations of one family bound together and torn apart by blood, faith, time, and fate. Vogue : Best Books to Read This Winter Structured as a triptych, Africaville chronicles the lives of three generations of the Sebolt family—Kath Ella, her son Omar/Etienne, and her grandson Warner—whose lives unfold against the tumultuous events of the twentieth century from the Great Depression of the 1930s, through the social protests of the 1960s to the economic upheavals in the 1980s. A century earlier, Kath Ella's ancestors established a new home in Nova Scotia. Like her ancestors, Kath Ella's life is shaped by hardship—she struggles to conceive and to provide for her family during the long, bitter Canadian winters. She must also contend with the locals' lingering suspicions about the dark-skinned "outsiders” who live in their midst. Kath Ella's fierce love for her son, Omar, cannot help her overcome the racial prejudices that linger in this remote, tight-knit place. As he grows up, the rebellious Omar refutes the past and decides to break from the family, threatening to upend all that Kath Ella and her people have tried to build. Over the decades, each successive generation drifts further from Africaville, yet they take a piece of this indelible place with them as they make their way to Montreal, Vermont, and beyond, to the deep South of America. As it explores notions of identity, passing, cross-racial relationships, the importance of place, and the meaning of home, Africaville tells the larger story of the black experience in parts of Canada and the United States. Vibrant and lyrical, filled with colorful details, and told in a powerful, haunting voice, this extraordinary novel—as atmospheric and steeped in history as The Known World, Barracoon, The Underground Railroad, and The Twelve Tribes of Hattie—is a landmark work from a sure-to-be major literary talent.

A shocking exposé of the desperate subculture surrounding heroin addiction, William S. Burroughs' Junky is edited with an introduction by Oliver Harris in Penguin Modern Classics.Burroughs' first novel, a largely autobiographical account of the constant cycle of drug dependency, cures and relapses, remains the most unflinching, unsentimental account of addiction ever written. Through junk neighbourhoods in New York, New Orleans and Mexico City, through time spent kicking, time spent dealing and time rolling drunks for money, through junk sickness and a sanatorium, Junky is a field report (by a writer trained in anthropology at Harvard) from the American post-war drug underground. Nurtured into being by fellow Beat Generation guru Allen Ginsberg, Junky is a cult classic that has influenced generations of writers with its raw, sparse and unapologetic tone. This definitive edition painstakingly recreates the author's original text word for word.In work and in life, William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) expressed a constant subversion of the morality, politics and economics of modern America. To escape those conditions, and in particular his treatment as a homosexual and a drug-user, Burroughs left his homeland in 1950, and soon after began writing. By the time of his death he was widely recognised as one of the most politically trenchant, culturally influential, and innovative artists of the twentieth century. His numerous books include Naked Lunch, Junky, Queer, Nova Express, Interzone, The Wild Boys, The Ticket That Exploded and The Soft Machine. If you enjoyed Junky, you might like Burroughs' Exterminator!, also available in Penguin Modern Classics.'Reads today as fresh and unvarnished as it ever has'Will Self

Abstract Recombinant antibody cloning and phage display technologies proved to be very efficient in producing single-chain antibodies (scFv), against antigen of interest which is MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. The main objectives of this study are to construct single chain variable fragment (scFv) towards MCF-7 breast cancer cells and to characterize scFv antibodies that interacts with MCF-7 breast cancer cells line. In the methods: phage display technologies were used to produce single-chain antibodies (scFv) against (MCF-7) breast carcinoma cell line. The starting material was the mouse B cell hybridoma line C3A8, which generates a monoclonal antibody against breast cancer cells (MCF-7). The integrated cloning, screening, and phage display system allowed to obtain a scFv sequences derived from the hybridoma C3A8 cell line. The scFv gene was then cloned into nova-blue host strain for cloning purposes and then into origami DE host strain for further characterization. The purified single-chain antibody was purified using Immobilized Metal Affinity Chromatography (IMAC).the recombinant antibody technology is a rapid approach to next generation of cancer diagnosis and therapy antibody
